Safe Steps is the only 24/7, family violence response centre in Victoria, providing a “state-wide entry point” for victim-survivors of domestic and family violence. Services include information and referral, crisis response, specialist family violence risk assessment, safety planning, Webchat, and access to supported crisis accommodation.

Our practice is trauma-informed and guided by evidence. We provide services to all victim-survivors and recognise that most of our work is dedicated to the needs of women and children which reflects the gendered nature of domestic and family violence.
Job Description
THE ROLE
The Manager, Quality, Risk and Compliance is a senior leadership role responsible for the design, implementation and oversight of enterprise-wide risk, compliance and quality systems.
Reporting to the Executive Manager – Practice and Clinical Excellence, you will provide independent assurance and strategic advice to leadership, ensuring robust governance frameworks that support safe, compliant and high‑quality service delivery.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead enterprise risk management frameworks, including identification and mitigation of strategic and operational risks
Provide independent, evidence-based risk and compliance advice to Executive and Board-level stakeholders
Ensure compliance with the Social Services Regulation Act and relevant standards
Oversee audit, assurance, and regulatory readiness activities
Manage incident, complaints and continuous improvement systems, including trend analysis and reporting
Lead privacy, information governance, and complex information request responses
Embed a strong risk-aware culture and continuous improvement approach across the organisation
Act as a key liaison with regulators, auditors and external stakeholders
Uphold Safe Steps’ commitment to inclusion, equity, and cultural safety for all communities
Desired Skills and Experience
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
Relevant tertiary qualification in risk, governance, law, public policy, or human services
Significant experience (7+ years) in risk, compliance, audit or governance within regulated environments
Demonstrated experience leading enterprise risk and assurance frameworks
Strong knowledge of regulatory frameworks, including privacy and information sharing legislation
Proven ability to provide strategic advice to senior leaders and influence decision-making
Highly developed analytical, reporting and stakeholder engagement skills
Experience working with regulators, audits, or accreditation processes
Commitment to Safe Steps’ values of Integrity, Diversity, and Empowerment
Current Working with Children Check and willingness to undergo a National Police Check
Desirable
Experience in the family violence or broader human services sector
Qualifications in governance, audit or risk certification (e.g. GAICD)
