Safe Steps is the only 24/7, family violence response centre in Victoria, providing a “state-wide entry point” for victim-survivors of domestic and family violence. Services include information and referral, crisis response, specialist family violence risk assessment, safety planning, Webchat, and access to supported crisis accommodation.

Our vision is safety, support and respect for all victim-survivors of domestic and family violence.

Our practice is trauma-informed and guided by evidence. We provide services to all victim-survivors and recognise that most of our work is dedicated to the needs of women and children which reflects the gendered nature of domestic and family violence.

Job Description

THE ROLE

We are looking for a Full Time Manager Residential Services to join our growing team!

The Manager Residential Services will oversee the delivery of residential services managed by Safe Steps and leads a team of engaged, skilled professionals to deliver effective, individualised support to adults, children and young people.

PAY LEVEL: SCHADS Level 8 - Pay Point 1 ($65.39 per hour)
CONTRACT TYPE: Permanent, Full Time (Monday - Friday)
 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Service Delivery

Oversee the provision of services delivered by staff, ensuring all - adults, children and young people accommodated by Safe Steps:

  • experience a strength-based service response that empowers them to be self-determining
  • participate in a comprehensive risk and needs assessment prior to, or at commencement of their stay
  • participate in the development of an individualised - case plan that promotes safety and wellbeing
  • receive case management support to achieve the goals of that plan, including individualised support specific to their needs, including but not limited to educating - clients regarding family violence and healthy parenting
  • are referred to health, welfare and other support services relevant to their needs

Leadership & Team Support

Develop, lead and maintain a high performing team by:

  • facilitating staff engagement and effective communication
  • providing supervision, coaching and support to staff
  • ensuring all staff participate in induction and mandatory training, and receive regular feedback on their performance
  • providing professional and reflective supervision to a small number of staff from the crisis response teams

Development and Continuous Improvement

Lead and manage key projects related to supported accommodation/refuge, families with complex needs and continuous improvement of Safe Steps operating model and practice, including:

  • representing Safe Steps at key stakeholder networks as required and maintain relationships with stakeholders that assist Safe Steps to provide support to adults, children and young people.
  • contribute to the ongoing development of Safe Steps operating model, practice approaches, information resources etc. (in conjunction with other managers)

Desired Skills and Experience

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA - Essential

  1. Tertiary qualifications in Social Work or equivalent social/human services qualification OR
  2. Significant experience in the provision of family violence or other support services to adults, children, and young people including demonstrated ability to deal appropriately with stress, maintain composure and apply effective engagement strategies with clients in crisis
  3. Understanding of the specialist family violence sector in Victoria and of state-based legislation as it pertains to family violence, privacy and child protection legislation relevant to service delivery
  4. Demonstrated experience in leading a team in a social services setting to the provision of services to vulnerable children, families and diverse communities
  5. Proven experience in driving cultural and practice change that fosters reflective and culturally safe practice
  6. Demonstrated ability to work in a challenging and demanding environment, managing competing demands, and maintaining composure in times of stress – employing effective engagement strategies with staff and with clients in crisis
  7. A current Working with Children Check and National Police Check
